Jailed for Kissing

I thought Police had better things to do with their time, apparently not.

A British woman was "caught" kissing her boyfriend in a restaurant. A local Emirati saw it, called the police and voila, the two have been arrested and face one month imprionment. With all the scandalous things that are going on in playland Dubai, this makes headlines.

Do you encourage kissing in public?!
There must be a kind of respect for the local culture and rules.. I think when they kiss in their own house or hotel room the police did not arrest them(unless the restaurant kiss is their first one:)).

  2. Mahfeef, welcome back.

Respect for the local culture? Dubai itself is the eptiome of contradictions.
My point is that with all the crazy, unislamic, inhumane things that are going on in Dubai, police are able to so effiently crack down on alleged kissing in public (which very well could have been a kiss on the cheek). One month prison? Don't you think thats a bit much?

You can have a video tape of undeniable abuse and still get away scot free.

  3. Well our countries in the gulf are full of such strange rules, BUT if there is a respected law (anywhere) in the world) everyone must follow it regardless of its contradictions. I know kissing is not a crime but not everywhere. I also know that the punishment of kissing in public (in Dubai's law) is more than the punishment of bringing teenagers from poor countries for prostitution.

  5. They should get a life.

Dubai is no longer an "Islamic" country with all the Western people going there and working there. The stupidest thing I have ever heard the police do is THIS! -_-

  6. Well it is against cultural ethics but arresting them is just stupid. These incidents are increasing in Dubai, specifically against White people. I think they're just jealous and have a grudge against them. "Those white folks take all our money and we're left poor and in mediocre positions" - something many Dubaians constantly repeat!

  10. Display of affection in public is against culture and law in UAE but many ppl take things for granted. I don't know why I notice some folks focus on and emphasize the "bad side" of Dubai while ignoring or deliberately overlooking the good side and achievements of Dubai?? I think what Dubai achieved in a short period has not been dreamed off by any country (not town) in the region (off course there are side affects to be addressed).

  12. Rania are you serious or just being sarcastic :)? I mean come on surely you heard of a couple of success stories from Dubai. What sector would you be interested in? Here are a few examples I could think of: Building a Knowledge-based economy investing in human resource development, e-government, etc
DP Ports, JAFZA, Dubai Metro, Emirates,Dubai Cares initiative. Now I know you can probably counter these with negatives of Dubai and I don’t deny them but I think the media needs to maintain a balance when picking on a country.
