"The success was rooted in a political reality. Where knowledge is limited, and the desire to learn the complex reality doesn’t exist, public opinion can be shaped by whoever generates the most powerful symbols. And on a matter of only tangential interest, governments tend to follow their publics’ wishes, however they originate. There is little to be gained for governments in resisting public opinion and much to be gained by giving in. By shaping the battlefield of public perception, it is thus possible to get governments to change positions."
For those of you curious enough to know…
I am an expat married to an Omani, who has been living in Salalah long enough to appreciate and admire the culture but not long enough to willingly eat camel or wear a pom pom.
Our decision to leave the luxuries of ‘home’ was made in hopes of finding contentment in the simple things in life.
I have grown to truly love and respect the people here, their traditional values and conservative lifestyle. At times though, I am a fish out of water.
The intention to write was inspired in part by a friend, along with my need to release through words. My journey to and in Salalah has been one full of excitement, strange encounters and a strengthening of faith.
Then they say they do it because "they" were attacked or use any stupid excuse they have up their stinking sleeves!
