What's Up With...

This?

I've lost count of how many times I've seen this, because it happens nearly everyday. Dhofari men choose the strangest places to adjust their "underware". You could be waiting at an ATM, parked in front of a grocery store, at the beach, in a restaurant, or in this case in front of Center Point, and then all of a sudden, the dishdash goes up, a pull here, a fold there, a slight wiggle and you've just been semi flashed. Its no secret most men don't wear underware, so the thought of some random guy "fixing" himself is gross.

Seriously guys you should be a little more subtle about it, choose a place where people are not likely to see you. The other day while sitting in the car I turned to my right and the guy parked next to us was between our car and his facing ME, fixing his izaar. Thank the Good Lord I didn't see anything, and only caught him pulling his disdash down. He probably assumed no one was in the car since our windows are totally tinted. But someone WAS in the car! and had I turned to my right a few seconds earlier......

  2. Oh yes the Izar tightening act..hehe. All i can say is MEN.. i have to say my husband doesnt do such in public let alone infront of women..alhamdulillah. I think they dnt have bad niyyah, its just a habit that they are used to from whem some of them are up in the mountains walking around after the cattle etc. With all the dhofari men ive met im yet to have an incident where such izar fixing has been done infront of my eyes in a rude manner.
Maybe i just love mountain people alot and accept its one of their habits..Allahu alim.

I saw an oooold man fixing his just today and I almost saw too much. His old skinny sagging leg and thigh was just so hard to see. STOP FIXING YOUR UNDERPANTS IN FRONT OF THE WORLD

  6. There is nothing wrong with this Rania. Sometimes it is going to fall from our waist so we must fix it whereever his will occur. I believe we try to not be in eye view but sometimes it is necessary.

Maybe the boys should tie it more from the top so that it will not come out so often. I think that its okay because we don't feel its shameful for nothing is going to be shown to much. If you see such things its ok look somewhere else. This is better for you.

  7. I'm sure you would Anon ... hehehe ... oh, goodness, I'm in a giggly mood today ... thanks for this post Rania, I really appreciate it! Gotta say your previous two posts made me a little blue thinking a lot about the whys, hows, etc. of this life ... will still think about those things, of course, I'm just glad for the little burst of laughter and sunshine, which make everything easier to understand and see! :)

Oh, and let me share a story - remember your post on 10 things in Salalah that make you go wow, etc.? Well, I think I ran into your Jebbali-man-from-Isteqrar's brother or very close cousin!

This very nice, very old Jebbali man asked me nicely in the women's consmetics section of one of the supermarkets (you know, the section that has all the creams, exfoliates, etc.?) to RECOMMEND a good cream for very dry hands!!! He did not express any of this verbally, just pointed to creams, then to his cracked and dry hands, then made a little despairing gesture with his hands, then a little sort-of bow (think Japanese style greeting).

He stood very politely and quietly off to the side, and 'followed' me up and down the isle as I checked a few products for him. In the end, I suggested 3 possible choices - and guess what? He bought ALL 3!!!

  10. Oh Dear, ... yes, ... Omani men don't really wear underwear. Dude, it's called underwear not underware! unless it's a creepy spelling from your home-country.

Anyway, it's gross. I've seen hundreds of men adjusting it. They walk into my office at work and while talking to me they hitch their dishdasha up and fix it in front of me!!!!!! It's just AWFUL! some izaar's a really see-through. I just try not to look but it's hard.

i think girls shud start doing the same thing. fix ur head scarves and watch all the guys straining to see what they can catch.

a little skin never hurt anyone. its okay guys!

  12. Well, sure, a little skin never hurt anyone ... but it really DOES depend on which part of the body the skin comes from!!!

Sure, a little wrist, ankle, or elbow is perfectly harmless ... BUT THAT PART OF THE MALE ANATOMY?!?!

I tell you, I want a CHOICE of whether I see THAT and WHO it belongs to - preferably my husband! Otherwise it's just rude, disgusting and shameless!

Seriously, you can't mean to suggest it is the same as seeing a girl's ear, hairline, or throat???

  13. @ One Woman, LOL. No its certainly NOT the same. Men can be so gross sometimes!

@ Nadia, remember that one guy on the highway...oh gosh!

  14. Oh and Nadia, yes its underWEAR, I guess I was just thinking along the lines of tupperWARE (things that should be closed, sealed, concealed...) lol

  16. Boy am I behind on blog reading...

You have to give him credit. He is wearin' a 'fly wizar'. It's so colorful - so daring -tres chic! *kidding*

When we first came here, it seemed that I would witness things like this quite often because I refused to sit home with the in-laws when al-hub had to go here and there to the small shops (I was just a hot mess, I tell you), but I caught on to the act. First hoosier dude would thrust his hips forward, then, he'd dip his chin like he was holding something up with it, then he would roll his disdasha up to reveal his 'man slip'. I nearly died the first time witnessing it. It gets a little tricky sometimes - especially if they don't wear undies or boxers under the 'man slip'. Anyways, after I figured out the ceremonial wizar pre-adjustment dance, I learned to turn my head or just close my eyes because they. have. no. shame. And sometimes, I really think they did it on purpose. Weirdos.
