- For those of you curious enough to know… I am an expat married to an Omani, who has been living in Salalah long enough to appreciate and admire the culture but not long enough to willingly eat camel or wear a pom pom. ReplyDeleteDoes Omantel provide VPN? It's a virtual private network, and we use it to access our networks abroad at work.

Omantel has blocked some of the VPN sites but, I'm sure if you google VPN you will be able to find one that's not too expensive (or even free like Anchorfree). Otherwise you could down-load the software onto a laptop when you're out of the country. You can then use it when you're back in Oman.

The Omantel land line at my house is so bad I can't even understand what people abroad are saying if I call them with the fixed line :-(

They have feature that puts all your browser requests through their servers and then sends it to you compressed. This is for people with slow convections but I have used it in Oman to get around other their blocks.

ReplyDeleteOman is a small country. by blocking these sites they have tried to protect country's interest and loss of revenue to the country. cannot blame them. But when the world is opening up for VOIP, i think oman also should take steps to accept the same. However it is in descretion of TRA
